Policies and Guidelines

Mission Statement: The goal of the Maplewood Lacrosse program is to foster the growth of our young girls and boys. We will accomplish this by teaching teamwork, respect for each other and our opponents and sportsmanship.

Grade Specific Policies:

*If your child plays on a third or fourth grade team, each player will receive equal playing time over the course of the season. At this age, emphasis will be placed on broad individual and team skills, understanding of lacrosse and having fun. Winning is not a goal.

* If your child plays on a fifth or sixth grade team, all players will be granted playing time. Playing time will, however, be determined by the following criteria

  • Attendance at practice
  • Behavior at practice
  • Sportsmanship
  • Willingness to learn

The goal at this level will be to prepare children for a more competitive level of play by offering a more thorough and complex level of coaching of necessary team and individual skills. The goal at this level remains developmental. Winning is not a goal.

* If your child plays on a seventh or eight grade team, all players will be granted playing time. Playing time will be determined by the following criteria:

  • Attendance at practice
  • Behavior at practice
  • Sportsmanship
  • Willingness to learn
  • Ability
  • Dedication to the game

At this level, games will be competitive and teams will be playing to win.

All of the coaches look forward to an exciting Spring Season.
